Emotional trauma is a lot like physical trauma. It’s like being a surviving passenger in a car someone else totalled. You may make it out alive but the healing can take so long. It’s just like that. Some people get into a wreck and walk away fine, some sustain a lot of damage. If you did take enough damage, it will take a long time to recover. You will likely learn to walk again but you will never walk like you could before the crash.
You can totally forgive the person/people who inadvertently caused this damage and accompanying scar tissue but it doesn’t change the fact that you will never walk quite the same again. It can be so frustrating. Like Harry Potter, the scar flares up sometimes.
This applies to everyone from children to soldiers to soulmates and everyone in between.
